An interview with Dana Carroll
Dana Carroll’s journey to wellness actually started when her husband emerged with renewed vigor and stamina after undergoing treatment with Dr. Dale Guyer at the Advanced Medical Center. Witnessing the tremendous improvement in his health prompted Dana to confront medical issues that had plagued her for decades.
One and one-half years ago, Dana began seeing Dr. Guyer. Suffering from chronic fatigue, low energy levels, and memory loss, Dana had exhausted conventional interventions. Over the years, she felt doctors thought she was “crazy” because test results fell within normal limits, yet she and people close to her knew something was wrong.
Several years ago, Dana was enrolled in pre-med classes, but her concentration and retention of material was poor; she simply didn’t feel well. Even though graduating years earlier with a degree in literature, she noticed that even her writing skills suffered.
After undergoing treatment with Dr. Guyer, she feels fantastic and is contemplating returning to pre-med coursework with renewed vigor and commitment.
Dana believes that the staff at Advanced Medical Center is the best that she has ever encountered. Around the medical field for most of her life, Dana finds that the Center is the first to really care for her as an individual and made a profound impact on her quality of life.
Q: How did you initially come to see Dr. Guyer, and how did you hear about his practice?
A: I first heard about Dr. Guyer through the grapevine. I had seen another physician whose anti-aging practice closed. He also recommended Dale. Initially, Dr. Guyer treated my husband for fatigue and stress. We own a busy data center downtown that operates 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year. There is a lot of stress. After years of working at that pace, my husband began to lose steam, so I took him into see Dr. Guyer. He began treatment. Within a month, the difference in his health was night a day. His energy returned, and he felt so much better.
After witnessing such great results after only a month, my husband wanted me to start, so I began seeing Dr. Guyer about a month later.
Q: What were the symptoms you experienced prior to starting on Dr. Guyer's treatment?A. I was suffering from severe lack of energy. I was tired all the time, suffered from brain fog, and was unable to lose weight even though I was eating about 500 calories a day and exercising religiously. No matter what I did, I couldn’t lose weight and had no energy. It was so bad that I couldn’t even go out in the evening.
I just finished two years of prerequisites to enter medical school. But I experienced a lot of problems. Taking the coursework, I realized that I was suffering from significant cognitive impairment. I was unable to retain new information. It was a real struggle.
I knew something was wrong. I went to numerous specialists, but when test results returned, they were within normal limits so the doctors concluded that there was not anything wrong with me. I knew something was terribly wrong, because I was no longer the person I was. I always had plenty of energy and went out in the evening. After seeing the good results in my husband, I thought if it works for him, it will work for me, too.
Q:
How was your evaluation with Dr. Guyer different from other
doctors?
A: The difference was again night and day. As soon I went in, half way through my consult I knew that I had found the right person. He spent two to three hours during my initial intake appointment, going through all of my history and really listening to what I had to say. He didn’t act like I was a crazy person. He patiently listened to me and advised me that we would work together as a team to figure out what the problem was.
After our converation, he immediately had ideas how he would follow up on my complaints, because he was familiar with the symptoms from his other patients. He explained that the polluted environment of the industrial Midwest causes many metabolic disorders and heavy metal poisoning. He also highlighted the fact that many people harbor too much yeast in their bodies, which prevents them from losing weight. If overloaded with yeast, no matter how much you exercise and diet, your body just doesn’t operate correctly so you won’t lose weight.
Dr. Guyer told me that my body wasn’t absorbing the nutrients from foods. He recommended that I begin intravenous (IV) vitamin therapy. He later discovered that my thymus was not operating optimally, my hormones levels were out of balance, and my thyroid function was sub-optimal.
After my tests results returned, he found that I was suffering from chronic fatigue and Epstein-Barr Syndrome.
Of course, Dr. Guyer performs many tests that most physicians have never heard of. He also educated me about many issues that none of my previous physicians ever mentioned to me.
In my case, my problems actually started when I was 18, and I suffered from many, many years from the symptoms. After talking with him and undergoing treatment, I traced the problem back to my youth. At age 18, I enrolled in the Navy out of high school in the 1970s. At that time, mononucleosis was around, and the virus that causes mono is the same virus underlying Epstein-Barr. Even though I didn’t have mono in high school, I was exposed to it, and the virus can remain dormant for 20 to 30 years before it activates in the body. I fasted to enter the Navy and as a result, I became sick. My then-physician prescribed a medication that I was allergic to which further failed my immune system. The drug caused me to manifest symptoms of leukemia. I was so sick that I had to postpone enlisting into the Navy for about two months. In boot camp, they injected me with further vaccinations (as is the rule), which further weakened my already compromised immune systems.
The entire process over time resulted in a cascade of problems that got worse and worse, until I finally came to Dr. Guyer, who helped me retrace my steps and figure out what had transpired.
I was misdiagnosed many, many times over the years. At times, I thought I was losing my mind, because doctors just told me that there was nothing wrong with me. But I knew there was something wrong, as did everyone who knew me. But with normal test results, everything seemed to be okay, so no one helped.
Q:
What measures did Dr. Guyer specifically recommend? A.
I was suffering from a multitude of health issues, so he prescribed a
treatment regimen and suggested that it could take up to six, 12 or
18 months before I would see results. However, over time it would
solve the many problems that I was facing. I immediately started the
chelation and vitamin IV therapies. Chelation therapy helped rid my
body of heavy medals. Another medication eliminated the excessive
yeast. I slowly worked my way through the program.
During that time, he ran thyroid and hormone tests which showed that I was operating without hormones. After my hysterectomy about five years earlier, I existed on the remaining hormones present in my body. I quickly used those up. He placed me on progesterone and testosterone, which helped a great deal.
After undergoing further tests, he also discovered that my adrenal glands were not functioning, which in part explained why I was suffering from such low energy levels.
Q: When did you begin to notice results?
A: I started feeling better right away, because I knew that someone was on my side who would work with and help me. I stuck with the program and within a month, I began to feel my energy return. Over time, I felt better and better. At check-ups, he would amend my treatment regimen depending on test results, tweaking the plan. He provided me a written treatment plan to follow, which really helped.
About nine months into the program, he added chromium to my supplement pool. The following month, I lost 30 pounds and two dress sizes, and my energy levels started shooting through the roof. I could not actually go out of the house and enjoy evening out like a normal person.
Finally, I began to feel like I did when I was a teenager and in my early 20s. My outlook on life was much more positive. My cognitive skills have now improved significantly. Before coming to see Dr. Guyer, I was so bad that I would study all day long and the next day get up to take a test and my mind would just go blank. My adrenals had no capacity to produce the hormones and chemicals needed. He really changed my entire life for the better. If I hadn’t met Dr. Guyer and gone through his program, I would still be waiting to die.
I will go in for my one-year checkup soon. We will run all the same tests initially to see what needs to be tweaked next.
Q: Sounds like you have experienced significant improvement.
A: Absolutely. The combinations of therapies have made such a significant impact on my life. I can’t believe the difference.
Q: Has you entire outlook on the future changed?
A: Yes. Before, I felt that I couldn’t go out, couldn’t remember anything, and didn’t want to go out. I wondered, what kind of life is this? I felt like I was about 90 years old and just waiting to die. I had very low quality of life, yet had everything to live for. But my health was really preventing me from enjoying it.
Today, both my husband and I have adopted the healthier lifestyle. We used to love coffee, but when Dr. Guyer informed us that caffeine was taxing our adrenals, we understood what was going on chemically, so we stopped drinking coffee and switched to green tea—a big change. We have everything to live for, so I really think that if we keep our bodies in good shape coupled with the tremendous advances science is making in genetics, we may be able to live to 150 or more! Health takes a commitment and effort. You can’t just take a pill and be done with it. It might take three months or 12 months. But if you stick with the program, you will get the results. It’s worth it.
Q: What advice would you give to those considering and "anti-aging" medicine, hormone replacement therapy or just looking to get healthier?
A: Just do it! I have told many people about my experience. Most are very excited, but somewhat hesitant when they discover that Advanced Medical Center doesn’t accept insurance. But I tell them, “If you keep doing what you do now, you will continue to get the same results! If you want a different results, take a chance and change what you are doing!” Try a new approach. Dr. Guyer has payment plans available. It really is not that expensive. Many people have a mental block that if a treatment is not covered by insurance, they just turn off and return to something that is not working. I advise people to move forward, have faith, and do it! When you are not feeling well, you can’t participate in family or business life. It is hard on all your friends and the people who love you.
The treatments have not only helped my husband and me, but also many others. When you sit in the IV room at Advanced Medical Center, you hear the most incredible stories—unsolicited testimonials from people who were at death’s door and returned to live a normal life. I wish we could get the word out, because Dr. Guyer and his staff are doing such a wonderful job and such good work, and there are so many people who could benefit.
I don’t like to suffer myself and don’t like to see people suffer.
My advice: Bite the bullet and do the right thing. Give yourself the gift of good health. It will have a positive impact on everyone in your life.
